This is the first time Koueigiku uses low-polishing rice for a high-alcohol, robust new release. It has the unique gentle mouthfeel of Omachi, presenting a different atmosphere from previous Koueigiku offerings. With future aging, more body and complex flavors are expected to develop, making it particularly recommended to enjoy as a warm sake at that time.
This new release sake introduces a robust style that Koueigiku has not had before!
Koueigiku has always been dedicated to pursuing a light yet flavorful sake. However, many people reminisce about the strong taste of Toji Yamamoto during the "Kikotaka" era in Aichi Prefecture.
In the 2022 brewing season, we used "Kamenoo" (turtle's tail) to launch "Gekkamurai," a new attempt in the style of "Kikotaka." In the 2023 brewing season, we chose Omachi (おまち), which is easier to dissolve and releases flavors more easily.
"月下無賴 (Gekkamurai)" is named after a young monk named Engetsu, on the reverse label of the bottle, depicting the moment of the youth uprising led by Ryuzoji Takanobu during the Warring States period.
