Sake from different vintages is brought together in a harmonious assemblage, building upon Kokuryu’s signature smooth and refined texture and the distinctive aromas and flavors of premium ginjo sake. The complexity and profound depth created through years of maturation are layered into the blend, as though the passage of time and the journey of the Nanba brothers have been condensed into a single glass.

“Kokuryu × Space Brothers Assemblage Ato” is an exceptionally limited collaboration between Fukui’s renowned sake brewery Kokuryu and the popular manga series “Space Brothers.” Created by blending sake from several different vintages, this special assemblage captures the long journey of the Nanba brothers—from gazing up at the Moon and promising to become astronauts to gradually making their way toward space.

Four vintages were specially selected to correspond with key moments in the story of “Space Brothers.” The 2006 sake is a treasured brewery reserve matured for 20 years, symbolizing the starting point when Mutta and Hibito promised to become astronauts. The 2021 sake offers gentle sweetness and an elegant aroma, corresponding to Hibito becoming an astronaut. The 2025 sake displays remarkable clarity and pure acidity, symbolizing Mutta taking on the astronaut selection process. Finally, the 2026 component is freshly pressed new sake, representing the pivotal moments when Hibito becomes the first Japanese person to walk on the Moon and Mutta achieves his dream of becoming an astronaut.

The packaging is equally rich in storytelling. The deep black outer box depicts the Earth as if viewed from the Moon, while the interior features the iconic scene of the young Nanba brothers looking up at the Moon together. The label uses Echizen washi, traditionally featured in Kokuryu’s premium series, with its textured surface evoking the lunar landscape and incorporating the “footprints” left behind after the brothers finally reach the Moon. Released only once and produced in extremely limited quantities, this exceptional creation intertwines 20 years of time, the distinctive character of multiple sake vintages, and the growth of the “Space Brothers” story. Because of its unique combination of vintage sakes, it is a precious assemblage that would be extraordinarily difficult to reproduce in exactly the same form.
