After fermenting domestic ume and sugar for about three years, this umeshu is blended with herbal powder produced in Akita. The first sip delivers a striking impact reminiscent of an actual Ryukakusan throat lozenge; by the second and third sip, as the palate becomes accustomed to the aroma and flavor, the underlying umeshu character gradually emerges. When served thoroughly chilled, the flavor becomes even clearer. A must-try for lovers of Ryukakusan or umeshu alike.
This umeshu is based on the signature brand “Okushimizu” from Takahashi Shuzoten, using “Homon Shimizu,” part of the Rokugo spring group—selected among Japan’s “100 Best Waters”—as brewing water.
