The aroma unfolds gently, offering a warm, sweet note reminiscent of roasted chestnuts. On the palate, it is smooth and refined, followed by a rounded richness and mellow depth, accompanied by an elegant vanilla-like sweetness. The overall profile is deep and multi-layered, presenting a luxurious and full-bodied expression with a long, lustrous finish—an exceptionally satisfying spirit with great weight and presence.
This is a limited release from Kuroki Honten, titled “In Search of Lost Time – Episode 2: Chestnut, Barrel-Aged.” Classified as a distilled spirit under Japanese liquor tax law, this work explores the possibilities of barrel aging—once restricted—while preserving the essence of traditional shochu-making methods. Responding to market demand, it is bottled at the maximum allowable alcohol content of 35%. Compared to Kuroki Honten’s iconic “Hyakunen no Kodoku,” this release offers greater depth, along with the elegant amber hue characteristic of barrel aging. Following “Episode 1: Sakura,” this edition blends chestnut wood barrel-aged spirit from Miyazaki with French oak-aged spirit, showcasing the distinctive roasted chestnut aroma and a richly layered finish—resulting in a truly unique and deeply expressive creation.
